Navigraph Navigraph is proud to announce the cooperation with Richard Stefan of NAVData-Service to provide the flight simulator community with FMS Data.
For a long time the principle source of FMS. Data for flight simulator enthusiast has been the Digital Aeronautical Flight Information File (DAFIF) provided by the US military through the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA).
In November 2005 the decision was taken to withdraw the data from public circulation.
"...the electronic distribution of DAFIF over the World Wide Web (www) and public sale of NGA FLIP outside US airspace will cease in October 2006." (http://www.nga.mil/NGASiteContent/StaticFiles/OCR/nga0517.pdf)
The NGA will restrict the data only to legitimate US State and Federal government agencies and their contractors as explained in the comment on proposal. (http://www.nga.mil/NGASiteContent/StaticFiles/OCR/nga0411.pdf) In effect this means that the source data on which many flight simulator software developers are dependent will be revoked.
A few voluntary initiatives to compile FMS Data have been founded but so far none seem to achieve regular update cycles or sufficient coverage. For this reason, Navigraph has taken on the responsibility to, with the assistance of Mr. Stefan and the knowledge accumulated over seven years with NAVData-Service, continue to provide the flight simulator community with FMS Data. The FMS Data provided by Navigraph will be identical to the one that has previously been provided and the support for current addons will remain. During the following months even more detailed data will be provided as the parsing routines are adapted to make use of the even more detailed data provided by Navigraph.
